What support do we offer?
Sukoon provides compassionate, nonjudgmental support through our call and texting services. Our trained respondents are culturally informed and create a safe space for individuals to share their experiences openly.
We take a holistic approach, recognizing the many intersecting factors that shape each person’s life and mental health journey. Our team is here to listen, validate your experiences, and empower you to recognize your strengths, protective factors, and capacity for hope.

What type of support can I receive?
We offer support for a wide range of concerns, including: Depression, Suicidal thoughts, Grief and loss, Sexual assault, Religious and/or cultural challenges, Substance use, Child abuse or neglect, Intimate partner violence, Financial stress, Experiencing homelessness,, Identity concerns, Marriage and divorce and more.
If you are experiencing an immediate crisis or require urgent medical assistance, please call 911 or 988 right away.

Who should use the helpline?
Our helpline is for anyone going through a difficult time. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, struggling emotionally, needing someone to talk to, or experiencing thoughts of suicide, we are here for you.
Our call and text respondents are ready to listen and support you through whatever challenges you may be facing.

Can I use the Helpline for information and resources?
Absolutely. In addition to emotional support, one of our goals is to connect community members with helpful resources.
You are welcome to call or text if you need assistance finding services or support as part of your wellness journey.

Is my call confidential?
Our helpline is anonymous and confidential. All information you share with our respondents will be kept completely confidential within the team. Your privacy and confidentiality are a priority for us and measures have been taken to protect that in all situations.
Exceptions to confidentiality will be made if there is concern you may be a harm to yourself or someone else or in the case where information is required to be shared by law enforcement.

Are our respondents clinicians?
No. Our respondents are not clinicians. They are trained community members who are committed to supporting others during times of need.
Sukoon has developed an intensive internal training program, vetted by clinicians, that provides evidence-based guidelines for all helpline volunteers. Additionally, all respondents are certified in Mental Health First Aid.

Does Sukoon provide counseling?
No, we do not provide counseling. Trained respondents answer calls, and create the space for you to share whatever it is that you may be going through. They will work with you to help break down the challenges you are facing and suggest the appropriate referrals if need be. They may refer callers to local services or other appropriate intake centers based on their situation, and connect them with appropriate local assistance and support.

Do we give Islamic advice?
Sukoon respondents do not issue any Islamic rulings, nor do we discuss Islamic law. We are competent and understanding of cultural sensitivities and will connect our callers to the appropriate local Islamic institutions if asked.

How can I share a comment about my experience with the helpline?
We welcome your feedback. After using our helpline services, you will receive an automated survey where you can share your experience directly with us.
